Authentic WW2 Yosegaki Hinomaru Japanese Good Luck flag, typically carried by Japanese soldiers during the war. Friends, family, & neighbors would write messages of encouragement & prayers for safety & victory.
Each handwritten line is from a different person, usually someone close to the soldier. The circle (the red sun) symbolized the heart of Japan, so writing around it was a symbolic way of surrounding the soldier with support & protection.
The stains, wear & tear indicate this may have been carried on the battlefield.
The primary inscription reads: (Bu-un Ch?ky?): �Eternal good fortune in battle� or �May you have everlasting luck in war.� This was the most common blessing written on these flags.
